Customer stories ATS Logistics

Three people on tracking. Then none, and a bigger cover team.

How ATS Logistics stopped spending as much time on healthy freight as on problem freight.

Every loadwith miles to next stop and a GPS ETA in the TMS

On the truckload team at ATS Logistics, three people spent their days tracking loads, and most of those loads were running just fine. Healthy freight was eating as much time as problem freight.

The problem with good loads

Strategy Director Steve Ponder says the thing that changed the operation most wasn't a better view of the bad loads. It was finally being able to see, at a glance, that the good ones were good.

"We went from three to zero, essentially, with just some eyes on it. We took all of our former track and trace people, and they are now on our cover team."Steve Ponder, Strategy Director, ATS Logistics

What Chain does on every load

Chain pushes miles to next stop and a GPS-estimated ETA straight into the ATS TMS, so the team can tell in a second that tracking is healthy. Autopilot handles the check-ins with drivers and dispatchers, and only the loads that need a person ever reach one. Steve recently spent a full day on tracking without making a single outbound call.

Where the people went

Every former track and trace person moved to the customer-facing cover team. That added capacity for shipper emails and calls, without the rush, and without a single new hire.

"If we didn't have Chain, we would be on the phone making check calls all day. It would be a huge step backwards."Steve Ponder, Strategy Director, ATS Logistics
